In a dramatic turn to one of Tamil Nadu’s most closely watched celebrity-political stories, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has withdrawn the divorce petition she filed earlier this year.
The Chengalpattu Family Court formally closed the proceedings on Friday, August 7, 2026, after Sangeetha appeared through video conferencing and told the court she no longer wished to continue with the case.
For Vijay, whose transformation from Tamil cinema superstar to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has unfolded at extraordinary speed, the development brings an abrupt legal end, at least for now, to a deeply personal controversy that had followed him through an election campaign and into the Chief Minister’s office.
